June 2025 – European Public Service Union (EPSU), with support from global federation Public Services International (PSI) joined thousands of marchers in Budapest on 28 June 2025 to stand in solidarity with the LGBT+ community and defend democratic freedoms under attack in Hungary and beyond.
Despite police warnings, legal threats, and a last-minute attempt by Hungary’s ruling parties to block the annual human rights march, the event went ahead as a municipal gathering supported by the Mayor of Budapest. Trade unionists from across Europe marched side by side with civil society and elected officials to send a powerful message: attacks on LGBT+ rights are attacks on fundamental rights, workers’ rights, and the freedom to organise.
