IFWEA-General-Conference-800

EDUCATION FOR EMPOWERMENT

IFWEA’s International General Conference is held every four years. The 24th General Conference met in Cape Town, South Africa, from Monday 4 December to Friday 8 December 2023, to review and renew IFWEA’s strategic objectives and elect the leadership for the next four years. The conference provided an opportunity for IFWEA worker educators and researchers to share their work and reflect collaboratively on the development of their global knowledge community. The theme of the 24th General Conference was Education for Empowerment. Workshops at the Conference interrogated key themes and methodologies which will inform the IFWEA programme for 2024 – 2028 and explore the collaborative development of educational resources.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

In the workshops at the 24th IFWEA General Conference, delegates discussed their purpose as worker education institutions providing education which empowers worker associations towards advancing democratic rights and freedoms, greater social justice and equality.

In the formal sessions, our work over the past four years was reviewed and used to define our strategic programme for 2024 – 2028. The strategy we adopted will address our organizational growth; the development of strategic partnerships and resources, and the continued design of educational tools, methods and resources which advance our global knowledge community of practice.
