COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to empower you with the knowledge to actively participate in and contribute to your trade union. Through this course, you will gain insight into your rights and responsibilities as a member, and learn how to be an effective and active union member.

WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR?

Grass root leaders, facilitators and educators, MBO mobilisers, trade union member, member based organization member, member of loose group

PRE-REQUISITES: WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED CRITERIA FOR ATTENDING THIS COURSE?

  • Educational Background: While there are no strict educational prerequisites, participants should ideally have a basic understanding of trade union and their positions and terminologies related to the Trade Union movement.
  • Computer and Internet Access: As many courses nowadays are offered online or utilize digital resources, participants should have access to a computer with a stable internet connection. Basic computer literacy skills, including the ability to navigate websites, access online materials, and participate in virtual discussions or activities, may also be necessary.
  • Commitment to Learning: Attending the course requires a commitment of time and effort. Participants should be prepared to actively engage with course materials, complete assignments or assessments, and participate in interactive sessions or discussions.
  • Access to the Union or formal/informal group: As the course delves into the role and responsibility of the member, participants will be benefited if they are involve in some kind of union or group where roles are divided.

COURSE DURATION, NUMBER OF SESSIONS AND MODE OF DELIVERY

The course will run over 4 weeks with a 1 hour facilitated session each week and 1 hour of self-learning activities on the IFWEA Online Labour Academy.

SESSION OVERVIEW

Session 1: Introduction Session

ONLINE LEARNING MODE: Synchronous session & Self-learning activities on the IFWEA Online Labour Academy

DESCRIPTION AND TOPICS:

  1. Develop an understanding of different organisational constitutions and structures

Session 2: Right and responsibilities of a member

ONLINE LEARNING MODE: Synchronous session & Self-learning activities on the IFWEA Online Labour Academy

DESCRIPTION AND TOPICS:

  • Participants discuss their understanding and the importance of a constitution and share the different structures in their organisations.
  • Participants will discuss member’s right and responsibility based on experiences and course materials

DURATION (minutes): 1 hour session & 1 hour for homework activities

Session 3: Real-life experiences of a member

ONLINE LEARNING MODE: Synchronous session & Self-learning activities on the IFWEA Online Labour Academy
DESCRIPTION AND TOPICS:
  • Participants share their idea on role of a member and discussion will be held on real life examples or successful story of being member and getting benefits from trade unions
DURATION (minutes): 1 hour session & 1 hour for homework activities

Session 4: Evaluation Session

ONLINE LEARNING MODE: Synchronous session & Self-learning activities on the IFWEA Online Labour Academy

DESCRIPTION AND TOPICS: Participants evaluate each other through role play, facilitator provides question related to role of a member for assessing understanding level.

DURATION (minutes):90 min session & 30 minutes for homework activity
