ILO Monitor on the World of Work. 9th Edition

THEME: Building Democratic Trade Unions TITLE: ILO Monitor on the World of Work. 9th Edition PUBLISHED BY: ILO (International Labour Organisation) WHO IS THIS FOR? The world of work is being buffeted by multiple crises. The Covid-19 pandemic created an unprecedented labour market crisis in 2020 followed by an uneven, uncertain and fragile recovery over 2021. At the start of 2022, labour markets are now reeling from further shocks that stem largely from the Ukraine conflict, which has significantly disrupted trade and commodity markets, with a rapid increase in prices, especially of essential goods including food and energy. The overall economic and political environment is considerably more uncertain than it was at the beginning of the year. This report gives a global overview of how countries are tackling an uneven labour market recovery that has been further undermined by developments described above. Trade union leaders, community activists, those working in policy as well as those working in the informal economy will find this useful. Download here ILO Monitor on the World of Work. 9th Edition

Promoting a Just Transition in Europe and Worldwide

THEME: Building Democratic Trade Unions TITLE: Promoting a Just Transition in Europe and Worldwide: How Civil Society and Trade Unions are Driving the Change PUBLISHED BY: SOLIDAR WHO IS THIS FOR: This study stems from SOLIDAR’s growing interest in engaging with the topic of ensuring a socially Just Transition to climate neutrality. Then, in the framework of its renewed mission, SOLIDAR kicked-off a mapping exercise that attempted to identify the key concepts, main policies and existing initiatives linked to a Just Transition. This publication is a result and a consequence of that exercise. This publication is addressed to both decision-makers and members of civil society. Trade Unions in the Balance

THEME: Building Democratic Trade Unions TITLE: Trade Unions in the Balance LANGUAGE: English WHO IS THIS FOR? This publication is aimed at worker educators, researchers and trade union leaders. Trade unions have enormous challenges ahead of them. It is hard to be a unionist today. Violations of trade union rights are widespread. Technological and economic changes affect the nature and type of jobs and with that the potential of organising and representing workers both in the north and in the global south. This is set against important changes in the economy and labour market. This working paper suggests four daring but equally realistic future scenarios for trade unions: marginalisation, dualisation, replacement and revitalisation.
